Herbjørn Gausta clippings, 1910-1976
An article by Dr. Marion Nelson, published in Sons of Norway "Viking," and a story in the "Minneapolis Tribune Picture Magazine" on Minnesota art, concerning Gausta, the first professional artist among Norwegian-Americans. Both clippings include reproductions of Gausta's paintings. Other clippings, including memorials and an article concerning Gausta as a photographer. -
Palmer J. Hertsgaard poems, 1939
Poems, "When Father Led the Band," with drawings by Spike Bell; and a translation of Henrik Wergeland's poem "Christmas Eve" which was published in "Focus." Hersgaard was a grandson of a Norwegian pioneer at Kindred, North Dakota. -
Benjamin M. Holt biography, 1974
An autobiographical account, covering 90 years, published in the "Concordia Historical Institute Quarterly," Spring 1974. Holt was born in Barnesville, Minnesota, but has lived much of his life in Fargo, North Dakota. He has been an active Lutheran layman, and from 1962 to 1970 he was the Archivist for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, North Dakota District. -
Anna Hong papers, 1978
Achievements of Anna Hong (Rutt), a one-page summary of her work as artist, teacher, administrator, lecturer and writer, other biographical material, and two letters. She was at one time Head of the Art Department at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois.
Collections include information about her donations to Vesterheim Museum and correspondence about her later years.
Her book, "Our Norwegian Ancestors and Their Siblings and Descendants," 1968, by Anna Hong Rutt, is in the St. Olaf Library. -
Ingmar Lee biographies, 1978
In Search of Ingmar, a compilation of brief biographies of men who bear the given name Ingmar. Curiosity about his name was an outgrowth of Lee's involvement in genealogical study. -
La Salle County, Illinois collection, 1931-1996
Welcome to Norway, First Permanent Norwegian Settlement in America, established 1834, a brochure prepared by the Norway Improvement League, Memorial markers and a Memorial Park in the area honor Cleng Peerson, who came with the first settlers to the county; "La Salle County Centennial Directory of Former Ottawa Residents, 1831-1931." Clippings and articles about the area are also included. -
Lokensgard family papers, 1915-1994
A series of reminiscences translated and bound into one volume, "printed for the Lokensgard Kindred." Translations were made by Emil O. Ellingson and Hjalmar Lokensgard.
Authors of reminiscences include: Mrs. Sigrid L. Ellingson (sod roof, covered wagon, Indian outbreak of 1862; Prof. Knute Lokensgaard, "Christmas in Pioneer Days." Touches upon a prairie fire; Oluf Lokensgaard, "Reminiscences"; Ole Lokensgaard "Pioneer Stories." Touches upon: coming to America by boat, crossing Lake Michigan by steamboat, German Grove/Nerstrand, language barriers, sod roof, prairie fires, Lauritz Larsen, B.J. Muus, Christopher Lockrem, Ole Ericksen Sando, moving to the Dakota Territory 1861, prairie schooner, Big Woods, Abraham Jacobson, winter of 1861-62, returning to Rice County, Minn., Indian uprisings in Nichollet County, 1862, reminiscences of Nicollet County, Lake Prairie Township (school and church) in the 1860s, a visit with Ole Bull, and Christmas memories, added January 2008 3 double oversized banker boxes (look to available lower shelving near end of collection). Marion Marzolf article, 1978
Copy of "Den dansksprogede presse i USA," taken from "Pressens Aarbog," Dansk pressehistorisk Selskab, Copenhagen, 1978. "The Danish-language press in America" is a summary of Marzolf's Ph.D. dissertation at the University of Michigan, 1972, which was published in 1979 by Arno Press. A copy is in the St. Olaf Library. -

Greetings from Telemark, prepared by the chairman of the Telemark Festival in Norway. The pamphlets include information about Norwegian-Americans who came from Telemark. -
Bruce A. Odenbach history, 1970
A dissertation, "A History of the First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, South Dakota," written for the 50th anniversary celebration in 1970, by a high school teacher in Sioux Falls as the completion of the requirements for a Master's Degree at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. A second copy of the history is filed in P0537, Congregations.
