Lars Christian Endresen papers, 1975
Biographical information and photographs concerning an immigrant from Christiansand who came to Hoquiam, Washington, in 1888, and who first found employment as a ship's carpenter. He became a shipbuilder and operated the Endresen Spar and Timber Company. -
Thor Helgeson papers, 1923-1929
Books "Fra Indanernes lande og andre steder i Wisconsin" and "Folkesagn og folketro" by Helgeson and a copy of his poem "Paa Min 85de Fodselsdag," a long autobiographical poem by a pioneer teacher and writer who emigrated from Tinn, Telemark, Norway, in 1862.

Peter Olsen Nasvik papers, 1890-1940
Copy of "The Story of Peter O. Nasvik," and a copy of a certificate of appreciation to Nasvik, a St. Paul building contractor, who had come from Christiansund in 1887 with his parents. On a visit to Norway in 1930 he became interested in the construction of the Norwegian stave churches. He built a chapel for the Green Lake Bible Camp, Spicer, Minnesota, based on his designs for such a church. The chapel was completed and dedicated in 1940, apparently the first stave church built in America. -

Olaf Skattebol papers, 1900-1927
History/Biography:
Olaf Skattebol emigrated from Aal, Hallingdal, Norway, in 1887. Skattebol studied theology under Gisle Johnson where he served parishes in Lofoten and Halling before accepting a call to Blue Earth, MN in 1887. He later served parishes in Lawrenceburg, TN, Merrill, WI, Walcott, ND, and later taught at Columbia College, Everett, WA.
His son, Christian, graduated from Luther College in 1902. Christian Skattebol went to the Philippine Islands as a U.S. government-sponsored teacher in 1904 and later entered business in the islands, returning to Oakland, CA, in 1927.
A second son, Lars, attended Pacific Lutheran Academy and St. Olaf College. A daughter, Signe, married J.U. Xavier, one of Pacific Lutheran's most distinguished professors. Pacific Lutheran University has the papers of Johan Xavier.
Scope and content:
The collection includes biographical data concerning a Skattebol, correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, and family histories. Several of the items in the collection relate to his two children, Lars and Mary, both born in the Philippines (1915 and 1917).

Copy of two "America Letters" from Colfax, Wisconsin, 1910-1912, family information, and an obituary notice for Sorkness, who was a Norwegian-American Civil War Veteran. -
Malena Abelsdatter Isene Steen memoirs, 1922
Reminiscences of an immigrant to western Minnesota (Big Stone County) who left Davik, Nordfjord, Norway in 1870. She describes the journey, early pioneer life and how she and her husband, Severin Olsen Steen, and children finally settled at Clinton, Minnesota. There is also a translation of the account. -
