<dcterms:description><![CDATA[Married couple Else (Born June 4, 1927) and Bjarne Grindem (Sept. 20, 1927- January 23, 2021). Else immigrated to Minneapolis in 1947, originally staying with an uncle. Bjarne, a member of the Norwegian Foreign Service, came to the Twin Cities on Thanksgiving Day 1952. Else and Bjarne met in the Twin Cities and married in 1954. In 1956 they left Minneapolis for Marseille, France. Between the years 1956 and 1989, Bjarne served in France, Norway, Sweden, Tokyo, Washington DC, Saudi Arabia, and New York, before the couple returned to Minneapolis, where they were living at the time of the interview. When asked if they viewed themselves as Norwegian-Americans, Else identified as a Norwegian-American immigrant, whereas Bjarne identified as a Norwegian living abroad. ]]></dcterms:description>
