Copies of transcripts of letters written by Hans Jacob and by Johan Gotfred Gasmann, who emigrated from Skien. December 18, 1943 and May 9, 1847. Biographical data collected by Alfred Gasmann, Skien, Norway, and J. S. Schneider concerning Hans Jacob and Johan Gotfred Gasmann, their ancestors and descendants. Hans Johnshoy (Jenshus) autobiography, 1928
Photocopy of a 60-page manuscript account of the life of an emigrant from Søndre Fron, Gudbrandsdalen, who came to Wisconsin in 1867 and moved to Pope County, Minnesota, in 1870, where he settled on a homestead south of Starbuck. The account deals with many aspects of pioneer life.
A translation (1985) of the autobiograghy by Gunnar Malmin is included. -

Hans Mattson clippings and articles, circa 1990
Together with the Reverend Eric Norelius, Mattson helped organize the church at Vasa, Goodhue County, Minnesota, in 1853. Mattson, an immigrant from Skåne, Sweden, has been called "the single most influential American leader responsible for the vast Scandinavian migration to Minnesota. His Reminiscences: The Story of an Emigrant, published by the Minnesota Historical Society in 1891, is in the NAHA book collection. A number of the clippings, photocopies and originals, concern the dedication of the Mattson Settlement Marker at Vasa, July 9, 1988, and the celebration of "Hans Mattson Day," October 9, 1990. The others address various aspects of Mattson's career. -

Photographs, vaccination records, and documents of Ole Olsen Moen and Hans O. Moen. Ole Olsen was born in 1818 in Vaga, Oppland, Norway. He died in 1896 Brown County, Minnesota. Hans O. Moen was born on December 25m 1852 in Lom, Oppland, Norway. He died in St. James, Minnesota. He married Kari Syverson in 1880. They had the following children: Ella, Ole, Olleda, Oliver, and Anver. -

Hans O. Blegen papers, 1903-1914
Born in Faaberg, Blegen emigrated in 1873 to Olmstead County, Minnesota. In 1885 he moved to Benson County, North Dakota where he farmed. Elected to North Dakota House of Representatives in 1906. For brief biography and photograph, see P0271, Norwegian-Americans in politics.
Includes: Copy of Governor L. B. Hanna's appointment of Blegen as member of the committee to present a bust of Abraham Lincoln from North Dakota to Norway (22 April 1914) and a program from the Unveiling and Presentation of the bust in Frogner Park, Kristiania, 4 July 1914; Photographic negative of "three of the many 'hired men' whom Blegen encouraged to strike out for themselves and not continue to work for others. They homesteaded in McKenzie County, North Dakota about 1903." The men are Peter Froholm from Innvik, Nordfjord; Clarence Rude from Stewartville, Minnesota; and Jon (Joe) Kirkeide from Stryn, Nordfjord. Added clipping from Curtis Eriksmoen (2006) "N.D. Artist [Paul Fjelde] lift Norway hopes during Nazi rule"
