Correspondence from the late 1880-early 1900, mostly in Norwegian, between family members in Minnesota, Norway, and Washington Territory. They worked in lumber mills, went to Augsburg University, and became a lawyer.

"From Husmann to Farmers: Norwegian Pioneers in Dakota Territory" by Eric C. Johnson follows the story of Peder Johnson and Mari Nielsdatter who were born at Nord-Fron, Gudbrandsdalen. They came to America in 1866-1867 and settled in Wisconsin, before moving to Dakota Territory in 1871 and settling in Abercrombie Township, Richland County.
An extensive collection consisting of correspondence, remarks and addresses, proclamations, and photographs. Born in New Sweden, Nicollet County, MN, to Norwegian-immigrant parents, he graduated from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, in 1886. Swenson had a distinguished career as a diplomat, serving as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Denmark, 1897-1905; Switzerland, 1909-1911; Norway, 1911-1913 and 1921-1930; and the Netherlands, 1931-1934.
Material sent to the Boxrud Farm in Norway from R.H. Boxrud and C.H. Boxrud who lived in Red Wing, Minnesota in the early part of the 20th century. Includes photographs, correspondence, and business cards.
