Ole Rolvaag standing in front of his house with wife Jennie, son Karl, and daughter Ella. The craftsman home was built in 1912 for the Rolvaag family at 311 Manitou Street in Northfield, MN, near St. Olaf College where he taught Norwegian and writing. Here, he wrote most of his literary work. The Manitou Street house remained his home until his death in 1931. Ella went on to teach in the Foreign Area & Language Study program at the University of Minnesota, while Karl became a diplomat and politician who served as the 31st Governor of Minnesota.
