- Ole Rolvaag's letter to Jennie Rolvaag.
- Translation:
Dear Jennie!
The mail just brought your letter. I will try to take the train one week from tomorrow and then be out there Saturday night. If that cannot happen, I will send a night letter. I would terribly like to see Clarence and Evelyn, and the rest of you also.
But I have to travel again on Tuesday- either home or to the Black Hills. If Coolidge has come back, I will travel to the Black HIlls, and then home from there. If he has not come, I cannot very well wait for him and will travel home Tuesday morning. If you want to stay longer, it is quite alright.
But here there is a lot for me to take care of now. Every day is costly for me, not just for the little I get written every day, but important things are in play. Not looking after them would be madness.
Last week at Brentano’s in New York, Giants was number 3. Have many reviews since you left. Will bring them with me when I come.
It has not been slow thus far. Have too much to do to think like that.
Was at Ballenbacher yesterday evening. Mrs. had made a real dinner for me. The day before I ate “dumplings” at Mrs. Hetle’s place. Otherwise I have not eaten out.
In the afternoon I have to go to Eikeland’s and help the children with his remaining projects, and then write a piece for the newspapers about the history association.
Monday Thompson and I must go to St. Paul and have a conference with Dr. Blegen.
Boe is quite poorly.
Ager is coming here on Friday, and will maybe stay overnight.
I do not know when Colcord is coming home.
You must read Reform for today. Purification gets a substantial beating. Now it seems to be breaking loose in our newspapers.
This will be everything you’ll get from me before I see you. Going now to town to eat dinner, then I will bring these words with me.
The women who want to see the reviews and letters, can very well wait until I come.
Many, many greetings!
Ole
Your Ole
