Einar Haugen transferred from Morningside College to St. Olaf to study under Ole Rolvaag. Haugen eventually joined the faculty at Harvard College and was a member of the Board of Editors for the Norwegian-American Historical Association.
Flaten Art Barn was built by Flaten and students in 1932. It is named after its designer/builder and the founder of what is now the Department of Art and Art History at St. Olaf College, Arnold Flaten.
