Nils Otto Tank biography, 1907-1955
A biography, 20 typescript pages, and a collection of articles, mostly in the form of clippings (1907-1946), of a Norwegian-born philanthropist and churchman, Green Bay, Wisconsin, by Nels C. Lerdahl, Madison, Wisconsin. Subjects treated are heritage, church, motives for emigration, marriage, Moravian community at Green Bay, and Tank Cottage, the oldest dwelling in Wisconsin. The clippings include articles by H. R. Holand, N. N. Rønning, Jon Norstog, Nels C. Lerdal, and others. Includes: "Nils Otto Tank," by Hjalmar R. Holand, 1909, "Nils Otto Tank. Gabriel Stene cippings, 1903-1962
A collection of articles, most them in the form of clippings, by a Wisconsin-born farmer at Norway Lake, Minnesota. According to his obituary he was much involved in community and religious affairs and wrote about pioneer days in "Decorah-Posten" under the name "Pionergutten." Stene was born near Rio, Wisconsin to emigrant parents who moved to Norway Lake in 1867. According to his obituary, "Gabriel was a very well-known man, very involved in community and religious affairs. He has written much about the pioneer days, among other things writings in "Decorah Posten" with the name "Pionergutten." -
Clara Jacobson papers, 1943
Childhood Memories (42 p. typescript) of reminiscences of childhood days spent in the Perry parsonage, western Dane County, Wisconsin, by a daughter of Abraham Jacobson, Lutheran parish pastor from 1868 to 1878. Written in informal style, Childhood Memories gives a glowing, detailed account of church, school, books, music, dress, entertainment, trips, playmates, guests, parsonage, garden and household and farm employees. There is special mention made of Olaus Jensen Breda, Ole Bull, Aanund B. Dahle, John N. Fjeld, Gulbrand Jensvold, Monona Academy, and the devastating tornado of 1878. Also includes a scrapbook of clippings of her writings from Decorah-Posten and Reform. Also, letters from H.H. Einung, 1928 - 1931 (Rjukan). Clara Jacobson was a teacher and author. Casper Bernhard Nervig papers, 1936-1940
Why did Anders Emigrate Only Thirteen Years Old? (39 p. tyepscript) and "The Great Snow Winter of 1880-1881" are accounts based on the experiences of Nervig's father, the Reverend Anders Johansen Nervig (1867-1951), who came to the United States in 1880 to live with his aunt and uncle on a homestead near Kerkoven, Minnesota. Casper Nervig was also a Lutheran minister.
Includes translation of articles Anders Nervig published in "Decorah Posten" (Dec. 22, 1936 & Oct. 22, 1940); photograph of A. Nervig and a clipping (1937) about him. -
Maria Oftedahl reminiscences, 1930-1933
Articles and clippings of a Cottonwood, Minnesota, housewife dealing with childhood memories, the "snow winter" of 1880-1881 in Lyon County, and local church history. -
Ole O. Enestvedt, 1932-1944, 2013
Articles and clippings of a Norwegian-born Minnesota farmer. The clippings are a series on local history that appeared in "Sacred Heart News" in 1944. "De Forenede Staters Vrste Indianerkrig" (39 pages) deals with the Sioux uprising in 1862, as does "Intervju med Guri Endressen" by Gabriel Stene. The latter appeared in revised form in "Minneapolis Tidende" (January 19, 1933). The third article, which appeared in "Skandinaven" (January 1, 1937), concerns the snowstorm of January 7, 1873. Enestvedt wrote a column for "Decorah-Posten," "Norske Pionerslegter," and was editor of the Numedalslag yearbook for many years.

John Ellingsen papers, 1891 - 1960
Correspondence and articles of a Norwegian-born (Stavanger, emigrated 1883) farmer and mason, Platte, South Dakota, which discuss local church life, the snowstorm of 1888, the depression in the 1890s, and World War I. References are made to Sven Oftedal, Theodor S. Reimestad, and Georg Sverdrup. Includes clippings of articles by son, Elling Ellingsen, about "some of the experiences my father had in the terrible blizzard of Jan. 12, 1888" (1960).
