Norheim Art Studio catalogs, 1948-1952
Photocopies of student art exhibits of a private studio established in Brooklyn, New York, by Thorn Norheim. Born at Eidsvold, Norway, in 1908, Norheim came to the United States in 1923. After study and exhibits in various schools and galleries, he opened his own studio in 1936. -
Katarina Thorwaldsen papers, 1892-1911
Katarina Thorwaldsen (born 1877 in Sandsvaer, Norway; died 1954 in Brooklyn, NY) emigrated from Norway in 1911 and settled in Brooklyn, NY with her husband, Theodore Thorwaldsen (born 1875 in Tonsberg, Norway; died 1969 in Brooklyn, NY) a ship captain, who had emigrated from Norway two years earlier. Katarina traveled to the United States with her young daughters, Esther and Eldrid.
Includes:
- Handwritten recipes and other handwritten material all in Norwegian. 8 notebooks dated 1892-1896.
- Sample of knitting and sewing
- Clippings
- Book titled, “Norge I Vare Hjerter” by Nordahl Grieg published in 1929.
- Affixed to the inside cover of this book is a handwritten letter in Norwegian, dated Julen 1942, signed by Haakon VII of Norway.

David Mauk bibliography and dissertation, 1985, 1991
A list of materials used for writing a history of the Norwegian settlement in Brooklyn. This study led to Mauk's The Colony That Rose from the Sea, published by NAHA in 1998. -
Gabriel A. Fedde biography, 1912-1986
"Pennestrøg—Opplevelser," the reminiscences (150 pages) of an emigrant from Feda to Brooklyn in 1880. He had been a teacher and a sea captain in Norway; in Brooklyn he established himself as a ship chandler and shipbuilder. He was influential in the religious life of the community as a lay preacher and a Sunday School teacher. He was one of the founders of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooklyn and also of the Norwegian Deaconess Hospital there.
The collection includes biographical notes and a summary of "Pennestrøg" in English. "My First Voyage as Skipper," is a translation of pages 60-66 of "Pennestrøg" by Gabriel Bernard Fedde, a grandson. -

Poems by a Norwegian born Lutheran clergyman, Thompson, North Dakota. From Rolvaag Library Vault. Many of the poems are for/about specific occasions.

Christ (Kristen) Gundersen America letters, 1923-1934
Excerpts of letters that were published as a part of series titled "De gamle Amerika brev" in "Fædrelandsvennen," Kristiansand, 1975.
The letters to his family in Øvrebø were written by a mason contractor who came to Brooklyn about 1900 and established his own business. Many of the excerpts deal with the effects of the economic depression of the 1930s.
Includes photo newspaper clipping. -
Bondeungdomslaget of New York papers, 1967-1975
Correspondence, photographs, programs and clippings of a society organized in Brooklyn in 1925. Its stated purpose was "to unite fraternally young men and women of Norwegian birth or descent of good moral character to meet together and uphold the Norwegian language, customs and habits."
The group built a cabin at Lake Telemark, Rockaway, New Jersey, in 1930 to serve as social center and vacation site, and organized the popular Bondeungdomslaget Folk Dance Group in 1962. -

Norwegian Christian Home for the Ages (Norwegian Christian Home and Health Center), Norwegian Sailors' Home (Den Norske sømandsmissions Virksomhead) Eidsvold sjømannshjemmet, Katonah, Westchester Co. Also includes Fort Lee (New Jersey) orphanage. -
Norwegian Lutheran Deaconesses' Home and Hospital (Brooklyn) papers, 1895-1960
Brochures, catalogs, histories (1923, 1933), reports, and clippings of an institution located in Brooklyn, New York. The hospital, started in 1883 under the leadership of Sister Elizabeth Fedde, merged with the Lutheran Hospital of Manhattan in 1956 and became known as Lutheran Medical Center. "Sagaen om Det Norske Hospital" is a series of articles by A. N. Rygg that ran in "Nordisk Tidende," February 16-March 25, 1943.

Andreas N. Rygg papers, 1923-1944
A scrapbook of clippings from "Nordisk Tidende," concerning Norwegians in the Boston area, membership lists of two Norwegian societies, a sea narrative, and an article concerning Karel Hansen Toll, Schenectady, New York. The file also includes a collection of clippings in loose form. Rygg was a Norwegian-born editor of "Nordisk Tidende," Brooklyn, New York, and the author of "Norwegians in New York" (1941). Includes a 10 p. manuscript account of Captain Anders Johnson rescue of 49 persons from the passenger boat, Central America on September 12, 1857 (author Rygg?, 1944).
