Anders O. Hagen papers, 1826-1902
Correspondence, autobiography, and a credit record from Klaebo seminarium of a Norwegian-born Lutheran clergyman of St. James (1873-1879) and Windom (1879-1902), Minnesota. The letters, written by Michael Borge, W. J. L. Frich, U. V. Koren, B. J. Muus, H. A. Preus, and P. A. Rasmussen relate to Hagen's pastoral call to America, his ministry at St. James, and his call to Windom.

J. Hart Rosdail papers, 1837-1961
A collection of materials used by a descendent of a "Slooper" family in compiling the book "The Sloopers: Their Ancestry and Posterity," 1961. Rosdail, a teacher from Elmhurst, Illinois, was listed in the Guinness Book of Records for his world travels. The "NY Times," Nov. 11, 1973, published a story about him and his experiences in the far corners of the world.

Clippings, correspondence, and diaries of a Norwegian-born riverboat captain who held master pilot licenses on the Ohio, Missouri, and Mississippi rivers. His story is more fully told in "Americans from Norway" (1950), by Leola Nelson Bergmann.

Oral history summaries: A guide to the collection published by the Midwest China Center, St. Paul, Minnesota. Collection includes abstracts by former St. Olaf faculty who were children of Lutheran missionaries to China. -
R.D. Henderson letters, 1889
Photocopies (and typed transcriptions) of two letters: to Knud Anderson, January 30, 1889; to "dear friend," March 6, 1889. Henderson's address is 259 Fulton St.; he has recently been asked to resign from the post office after working there 28 years. His wife died 5 years before, children (Lewis, May, Washington, Norman) are nearly grown up. His brother Bryngel has a clothing store at 38 North Clark Street. "Paul Anderson that used to preach the gospel for us has been post office clerk, grocery man, whiskey inspector and preacher again, and now he is Colorado raising stock. Andrew Nelson and Iver Lawson are dead and died rich. Victor F; Lawson, publisher of the Daily New is son of Iver." New is given about other mutual acquaintances. -

"Remembering a Life" by Clifford Davidson, 2010. Davidson's childhood spent in Rice County, Minnesota. Touches upon Eklund Lutheran Church, midsummer celebrations, school pranks, cross-country skiing, farming, bullying, mental illness and dysfunctional family life.
Clifford Davidson is Professor Emeritus of English and Medieval Studies in the Medieval Institute at Western Michigan University. He is the author of From Creation to Doom: The York Cycle of Mystery Plays (1984), Illustrations of the Stage and Acting in England to 1580 (1991), Deliver Us from Evil: Symbolic Engagement in Early Drama (2004), Festivals and Plays in Late Medieval Britain (2007), and others. He is the editor of The Tretise of Miraclis Pleyinge, (with Pamela King) The Coventry Corpus Christi Plays, and (with Peter Happé) The Worlde and the Chylde, and is presently preparing a TEAMS edition of the York Corpus Christi plays. He has published numerous articles in major American and international scholarly journals, and for many years was an editor of Comparative Drama. As director of the Early Drama, Art, and Music project in the Medieval Institute and his involvement with the annual International Congress on Medieval Studies, he was an active medievalist with broad interdisciplinary interests in the field. He also served as dramatic director for a number of medieval liturgical dramas.
In 1985, he was named Distinguished Faculty Scholar by his university. Born in Minnesota, Davidson spent his childhood during the Depression and World War II on a farm, and is an army veteran. After receiving his advanced degrees he pursued a vigorous career of teaching, research, and editing. In addition to his extensive work as an editor, he is the author of numerous scholarly books as well as more than a hundred articles published in the U.S. and abroad over the past forty years.
