Ingebret Simonson papers, 1870-1874
Diary kept by Ingebret Simonson, translated in 1969 by three of his daughters, Mabel Nuella Simonson Barnes, Della Simonson Meldahl, and Delores Simonson Moe. Covers the years 1870-1874, his last year in Norway, part of the trip to America and the first years at Hanley Falls, Minnesota. -
Simund Olsen Simundson diary, 1890-1909
A Lutheran clergyman's daily account of journeys from Kenyon, Minnesota, to Kalispell, Montana, and from Kenyon to Ashland, Oregon (1908-1909). Includes: Writings on history of Goodhue Co., Congregations.
Includes two record books (1890-1900) Simundson kept when teaching summer "Norwegian school" at Ostrander, Cottonwood and Hanley Falls, Minnesota while a student at seminary; and later for confirmation classes while a pastor at Kenyon, Minn. Simundson was born in Hanley Falls, attended Red Wing Seminary, Willmar Seminary, St. Olaf College, Augsburg and United Church Seminaries, and was ordained 1896. Served churches at Kenyon 1896-1923; Hanska; then Holden and Dale congregations near Kenyon 1928-1941.

Ole Singstad papers, 1908-1962
Reports of a Norwegian-born engineer to the New York City Tunnel Authority, and to the Washington Toll Bridge Authority, and articles on engineering problems. The file includes two obituaries. Includes publication from the World Engineering Congress Tokio (1929) "Ventilation of Vehicular Tunnels" by Ole Singstad, "Bau von Unterwassertunneln in den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika" (1933), "Vehicular and Pedestrian Tunnels at Antwerp" (1934), "Industrial Operations in Compressed air," (1936), "Planning and Construction of the Queens Midtown Tunnel" (1938), "Engineering Problems Related to the Health of Workers in Compressed Air," (1939). J. E. Sivesind letter, 1853
Photocopy of a letter written from Washington Prairie, Winneshiek County, Iowa, to Sivesind's sister in Wisconsin, with a typewritten translation by the Reverend Donald L. Berg. Sivesind writes "Land is still available...government land...$50 for 40 acres. An ordinary laborer has from 1/2 dollar to six shillings per day....On the first day of Christmas our new pastor (V. Koren) who came here 3 days before Christmas held the service here in the settlement....He used our old religion which we have learned from Norway on." -
Carl A. Sjolander papers, 1852-1871
A testimonial issued by the parish pastor in 1852 to Sjolander's parents on their departure to America, and the constitution and by-laws of the Hekla Fire Insurance Company, Madison, Wisconsin, incorporated March, 1871, possibly the only such society operated by Norwegian Americans. Sjolander lived in Onalaska, Wisconsin. -

Account books (1880 July 14-1928 September 10) and legal papers (1886 June 22-1901 September 23) of a Norwegian-born realtor, insurance agent, and farmer at Canton, South Dakota. Also Includes warranty deeds for several properties, mortgage papers, patent papers, a cemetery deed (1893), abstract of title papers (1895), membership certificate to the Norwegian Lutheran Deaconess Society (1897). -
Olaf Skattebol papers, 1900-1927
History/Biography:
Olaf Skattebol emigrated from Aal, Hallingdal, Norway, in 1887. Skattebol studied theology under Gisle Johnson where he served parishes in Lofoten and Halling before accepting a call to Blue Earth, MN in 1887. He later served parishes in Lawrenceburg, TN, Merrill, WI, Walcott, ND, and later taught at Columbia College, Everett, WA.
His son, Christian, graduated from Luther College in 1902. Christian Skattebol went to the Philippine Islands as a U.S. government-sponsored teacher in 1904 and later entered business in the islands, returning to Oakland, CA, in 1927.
A second son, Lars, attended Pacific Lutheran Academy and St. Olaf College. A daughter, Signe, married J.U. Xavier, one of Pacific Lutheran's most distinguished professors. Pacific Lutheran University has the papers of Johan Xavier.
Scope and content:
The collection includes biographical data concerning a Skattebol, correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, and family histories. Several of the items in the collection relate to his two children, Lars and Mary, both born in the Philippines (1915 and 1917).
