NORTANA is non-profit organization for researchers and teachers involved in Norwegian language, literature, and area studies, NORTANA promotes the study of Norwegian and Norway at all levels, and works to facilitate cooperation between scholars engaged in these fields. Founded in 1987 as NorTANA (Norwegian Teachers Association of North America), the organization changed its name to NORTANA (Norwegian Researchers and Teachers Association of North America) in 2002. In addition to winning the Akademikapris from Akademika Bokhandel in 1998, NORTANA has also conducted a number of projects to further Norwegian studies in North America. Included in this collection are newsletters, correspondence, and membership information.
A collection of letters, documents and photographs from Ole and Olena Stene. Ole lived in Alcester, South Dakota and Olena was in and around Sioux City, Iowa. Ole was a second generation Norwegian. They encompass their courtship, and have details about life/community activities around them at the time. There is also a packet of letters in Norwegian, some having to do with the death of Ole's father Knute Barboe in Kansas City.
