Christian (Magnussen) and Sophie Jellum Bernson immigrated to the United States in 1902 and settled in Hillman, Michigan. Correspondence of Sophie and Christian to their family in Norway is included, alongside translations and a brief family history. -
Hans A. Foss papers, 1895-1986
A photograph and clippings of articles which appeared in Decorah-Posten dealing with life in the Red River Valley. Foss, journalist and author, emigrated in 1887.
Contents:- "Husmandsguten" published in "Ved Arnen" (1953 in 1877). Transferred from P.A. Munch papers.

Arne Garborg papers, 1878-2014
Photostatic copies of letters by the Norwegian author to Mrs. Mabel Johnson Leland (1872-1947), Kenyon, Minnesota, the wife of Dr. Ragnvald Leland and the translator of Garborg's "Den burtkomne faderen," published in 1920 as "The Lost Father." The letters discuss practical aspects of publication.

Hulda Garborg article, circa 1913
Et myrdet folk, or "A Murdered People," concerning the plight of Native Americans, ran serially (9 parts) in "Morgenposten," Oslo, after the author's visit to the United States in 1913. Hulda was Arne Garborg's wife.

Biography of Clara Ueland by her daughter, Brenda, covers the years 1830 to 1927; includes letters by members of her family; and discusses such topics as war, woman suffrage, child discipline, League of Women Voters, religion, education, politics, and manners.
Includes letter from Carl G.O. Hansen to B. Ueland (recollections of Ueland's father); Vigdis Devik's "Privileged Family--Privileged Ethnicity: Ethnic Parental Polarization and Historical Contexts that Shaped the Life of Norwegian-American Columnist Brenda Ueland," article in Duluth Skandinaven, June 1952 by Paal Berg, and a master's thesis presented to the Department of Modern Foreign Languages, The Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, May 2005.
Brenda Ueland (1891-1985), a prominent columnist and author, was the daughter of Clara and Andreas Ueland. -
Paul M. Glasoe papers, 1873-1956
Lectures by a faculty member aired over WCAL, the St. Olaf College radio station, on various scientific subjects such as pasteurization, national resources, human physiology, master farmers, alcohol, and the role of honesty in scientific progress. Includes six published articles that deal with chemistry and the influences of Norwegian culture. Glasoe was for a time the president of the United Church Choral Union. The file includes five music-related articles by him. Family obituaries are included.
