Nils Brandt papers, 1907-2003
Memoirs (1907) and Recollections of a Norwegian-born Lutheran clergyman who emigrated in 1851 to a pastorate near Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. The memoirs deal largely with his travels as a home missionary in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Brandt was the first Norwegian pastor to preach west of the Mississippi River.

Nils Endreson Bøe (Anderson) papers, 1825-1927
Papers of a Norwegian-born Lutheran clergyman who attended Albion Academy, Augustana College (Paxton, Illinois), and Augsburg Seminary (Marshall, Wisconsin) and who served pastorates in Kansas, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Nils E. Boe was the father of Lars W. Boe.
The correspondence, consisting largely of letters to Boe written by clergy, laity, and relatives, describes economic, social, and church conditions especially in Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, and Wisconsin; provides information regarding problems connected with Marshall Academy and Augsburg Seminary; and discusses topics currently under discussion in the church, such concepts as professor fund, proselytism, "den nye retning," "erklæringer," "Wisconsinisme," and "Augustanaisme."
Included are three manuscript articles by Bøe, entitled "Protest" (1885), "Om Augsburgernes Principer" (1898), and "Det engelske sprog indenfor vort samfund"(ca. 1920). Most of the collection consists of correspondence with family and friends, including parishioners of Bøe in Kansas, Michigan and Iowa and a number of Civil War letters.

Nils Flaten article, 1939
"Valdris-rispo," a reprint of an article published in Maal og minne, written by a teacher and linguist at St. Olaf College. He tells stories in Valdris dialect as used by Norwegian-Americans in the Minnesota area where he grew up. A biographical sketch of Flaten by O.E. Rølvaag was published in Samband (1927). A photographs of Mrs. Flaten was transfered from the Rølvaag papers. -
Nils Flaten family letters and photographs, 1888-1956
Nils Flaten taught Romance Languages at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, 1900-1946. Born in Valdres, Norway, son of Ole and Moren (Wagensten) Flaten. Emigrated in 1868 and settled in Dennison, Goodhue County, Minn. Married Inez Ruth Olson of Arkdale, Wisconsin, September 1, 1896. Thirty-seven different correspondents.

Nils Jacobson Sonmor autobiography, 1887
Autobiographical sketches of Nils and of his eldest son Jacob (born 1863). The family emigrated from Tolga, Osterdal in 1866, eventually settling in Otter Tail county, Minnesota, near Dalton. Brief but vivid account of selecting homestead land and the first steps in developing it. Nils gives detail about his family, while Jacob tells of his marriage, moving to Polk county to homestead, later moving to Virginis for three years, and eventually (1902) to Wisconsin, St. Croix county.
Translated by Nancy Sonmore Vaillencourt and donated 1993 by her father Ronald L. Sonmore (2708 34th Ave. NE, St. Anthony, MN 55418). Includes correspondence between him and Forrest Brown about family history.
