Norwegian picture postcards, 1906-1925
Cards showing interior views and costumes at the time the first Norwegians settled in the United States. Added Sept. 25, 2012: 15+ postcards addressed to "Mr. and Mrs. Tedvald Rogne, Canby, Minnesota." Includes several U.S. images ("Street View, Walker, Minnesota showing water tower"; "Sunset on Lake Michigan" with masted ship). Donated by Marlin Heise. -
Norwegian Pioneer Association of America collection, 1890-1930
Norwegian Pioneer Association of America (Norske Pioneerforening). Sept. 16, 1896, with these officers: Oley Nelson of Slater, Iowa, president; Halle Steensland of Madison, Wis., treasurer; Rasmus B. Anderson of Madison, secretary. Later meetings were held at Decorah, Iowa, Oct. 4-5, 1899; Harmony, Minn., Oct, 11-12, 1903; Story City Iowa, Oct. 11-12, 1905; Minneapolis, Oct. 2-3, 1907; Stoughton, Wis., Sept. 23-24, 1909; Chicago, Nov. ? 1912 (clippings dated Nov. 5); Red Wing, Minn., Oct. 7-8, 1915.
One clipping (May 22, 1915) reports on the first annual banquet of the "Chicago-afdelingen." The only later clipping is one of June 19, 1927, reporting that the association had been dissolved by its officers: Birger Osland, president; Mr. Hjermstad, Red Wing, treasurer; and Knud Henderson, Cambridge, Wis., secretary. The reason given is death of many of the members, and other members going over to the bygdelag. The $85.50 in the treasury was divided between the NAHA ($50) and the Voss (Norway) children's home. Many of the newspaper accounts are quite extensive, especially that of the Story City meeting, which included five "efterslaet" articles through Nov. 26. -

Norwegian-American art exhibits catalogs, 1920-1930, 1947
Three original and seven photocopied catalogs of the annual art exhibits sponsored by the Chicago Norwegian Club in Chicago. The catalogs usually include lists of officers and committees, lists of artists and works exhibited, and the winners of prizes at previous exhibitions. The 1920 catalog gives the names and addresses of the members of the Club. The 1921 catalog includes biographical information about some of the artists. Norwegian-American Athletic Club papers, 1927-1938
Minutes, correspondence, and newspaper clippings concerning a Minneapolis men's athletic club organized by a merger of Norge Athletic Club and the Norse Sports Club. The members were active in soccer, skiing, and skating. The club gradually became inactive, but members gathered for social fellowship until formal dissolution of the Club in 1983. -
Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce papers, 1915-1996
Assorted papers, membership lists, trade bulletins, and clippings of a corporation organized in New York City chiefly for the purpose of promoting business interests between Norway and the United States.
Includes clippings on New York banks, copy of Certificate of Incorporation and By-Laws (found in August Reymert Papers); membership lists for 1958, 1965-66, 1967-68, 1974-75, 1978-79. Trade bulletins for Oct. 1969 and Jan. 1998. The organization publishes "Norwegian American Commerce," a quarterly; financial records (1974-1993) of Women's Auxiliary, Upper Midwest Chapter.
