Gerhard Hinrich Armauer Hansen articles, 1910-1967
Excerpt from the memoirs of a Norwegian physician who discovered the leprosy baccillus (leprosy has been called Hansen's Disease). The excerpt, Chapter 6 "Amerika" from his "Livserindringer og Betrangtninger," published in Kristiania by H. Aschehoug & Co., deals with Dr. Hansen's journey in 1887 to St. Paul to work with Dr. Edvard Bkmann and with travel in the Midwest. -
Tuve family papers, 1924-1982
Papers concerning the descendants of an immigrant family. Anton Tuve, the son of Gulbrand and Torbj Tuve, was President of Augustana College, Canton, South Dakota, 1892-1918. His four children, George, Merle, Rosemond, and Richard, all earned doctor's degrees in American universities and because of their distinguished careers in their respective fields were awarded honorary degrees at Commencement Excercises, Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota, in 1961.
Includes: Clippings, letters and photographs regarding Anton Tuve, President of Augustana College, Canton, South Dakota, 1892-1918, and his four children, George, Merle, Rosemond, and Richard (1924-1982). A copy of "Families of the Five Tuve-Tuff-Tew Brothers" by George L. Tuve, Cleveland, Ohio, is in the St. Olaf Library: CS71.T85 1977 NAHA. -

Typescript of an autobiographical sketch. The author recounts her memories of Aadalen, Norway, the journey (1868) to America, and life in the Wild Rice Community, Richland County, North Dakota, located in the Red River Valley. -
Sigurd Henry Holstad volume, 1941
A volume consisting of letters of tribute addressed to Mr. Holstad on his retirement as Executive Secretary of the Lutheran Welfare Society. Mr. Holstad, a Norwegian-born businessman in Minneapolis, was active in church, community and Norwegian-American affairs. -

The report consists of papers presented at the conference by experts from the United States and from Norway in the field of Norwegian-American studies. -

Andrew E. and G. Norman Wigeland report, 1975
Report entitled "The Andrew E. and G. Norman Wigeland Professorship in Norwegian Studies, University of Chicago, 1975" covering the history of the establishment of the Wigeland Professorship. The idea originated with The Society for the Preservation of Norwegian Culture, Inc. in 1955, and was revitalized by the University of Oslo, 1961. The Wigeland gift of $300,000 made possible a Chair of Norwegian Studies at the University of Chicago in 1975. The report was compiled from newspaper stories in "Vinland," a Norwegian newspaper in Chicago. See also Wigeland Papers, P1120. -
Laurits W. Krefting papers, 1849-1978
Papers of a research biologist of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, St. Paul, Minnesota. Mr. Krefting was presented an "Award for Outstanding Publication" in 1974 for the monograph on the Isle Royale moose. After his retirement Krefting decided to coordinate materials concerning the Norwegian fishermen in the Lake Superior Region. His work had already given him considerable background; he continued by extensive reading and by conducting recorded interviews. -

This information is now included in the book "Utvandringa fra Orkdal til Amerika; the emigration from Orkdal to America" edited by Olav Sjømaeling (1999). Includes alphabetical list of emigrants (1857-1914) with dates of birth and emigration. Lacks names between Gjølme (1886) and Hongslo (1886).
