Olaf Olsen papers, 1857-1939
History/Biography:
Ole Olsen was born March 12, 1871 to Marie Gulbrandsdatter (1841-) and Edvart Olsen (1838-) in Oslo, Norway. He had five siblings: Josephine Bertha (1869-), Marie (1873-), Gulbrand (1875-), Helga (1877-), and Harald (1880-). Olaf and his sister, Bertha, arrived in Castle Garden, New York City, on May 26, 1890 before arriving at their final destination. They traveled through Pittsburg, Columbus, Little Rock, Texarkana, Austin, San Antonio, and Pena. Olaf married Emma Noble on June 14, 1905, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Together they had a daughter, Ena/Ina Frances Olsen, born in 1906.Olsen was a shop machinist in Laredo (Texas), Wilmington (Delaware), and Philadelphia (Pennsylvania). He was also machinist on English ships and served in the U.S. Revenue Cutter Services during the Spanish-American War (1898). After 1900, he worked as an engineer with coastal trade steamship lines. He was also a member of the Socialist Party of America.
Scope and Content:
Correspondence, articles, reports, drawings, diaries, log-books, notebooks, clippings, and pamphlets of a Norwegian-born machinist and engineer. The correspondence deals with such topics as problems in engineering, sea disasters, strikes and labor problems, drought, farm crops, recreation, and religion.In a letter dated September 29, 1890, Olsen describes his journey from Oslo to Laredo, Texas, via ship and rail. Most of the letters by Olsen are to his wife. The articles include biographies of members of Olsen's family and also treat Yukon gold rush experiences. One diary concerns his immigration journey to America.

Olaf Skattebol papers, 1900-1927
History/Biography:
Olaf Skattebol emigrated from Aal, Hallingdal, Norway, in 1887. Skattebol studied theology under Gisle Johnson where he served parishes in Lofoten and Halling before accepting a call to Blue Earth, MN in 1887. He later served parishes in Lawrenceburg, TN, Merrill, WI, Walcott, ND, and later taught at Columbia College, Everett, WA.
His son, Christian, graduated from Luther College in 1902. Christian Skattebol went to the Philippine Islands as a U.S. government-sponsored teacher in 1904 and later entered business in the islands, returning to Oakland, CA, in 1927.
A second son, Lars, attended Pacific Lutheran Academy and St. Olaf College. A daughter, Signe, married J.U. Xavier, one of Pacific Lutheran's most distinguished professors. Pacific Lutheran University has the papers of Johan Xavier.
Scope and content:
The collection includes biographical data concerning a Skattebol, correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, and family histories. Several of the items in the collection relate to his two children, Lars and Mary, both born in the Philippines (1915 and 1917).

Stageberg taught at Jewell Lutheran College, 1895-1905; Waldorf College, 1906-1908; and Red Wing Seminary, 1908-1932. -
Olaf Svennungsen Houkom letters, circa 1870
Transcriptions of American letters by Houkom to members of his family in Norway, describing his 1870 journey from Kviteseid, Telemark to Coon Prairie, Wisconsin, and discussing his experiences and church relationships at Highland Prairie, Minnesota; Sparta and La Crosse, Wisconsin; and Augsburg Seminary, Minneapolis.

Olaf Thesen dissertation, 1951

Copies of letters between a Norwegian-born Lutheran clergyman and a former parishioner, Jennie Hartmann, containing reminiscences of the Ballard Lutheran Church in Seattle, Washington, and biographical information about Haavik. -
Olai Bache-Wiig clipping and notebooks, 1904, 1982
A story in the Mosinee, Wisconsin, Times, November 18th, 1982, concerning the presentation of a photograph of Bache-Wiig to the Mosinee Paper Corporation. Bache-Wiig, an immigrant from Baastad (now part of Oslo) was designer and engineer of the Corporation (1910 - 1911), operating superintendent, (1911 - 1916), and vice-president and general manager (1916 - 1924). The accompanying article was written by his son Lars Ravn Bache-Wiig of Philadelphia, PA.
Also includes two notebooks of "Tekniske Notitser" including a number of separate pages with various formulae, financial calculations, etc, also March 25th, 1904 letter to Olai from his uncle. -
