Scott D. Westerum manuscript, 1973
Copy of "Tribute to a well-known grandmother" with transcription and genealogical information concerning the family of Westrum's mother. The grandmother is listed as Helga Nokleby. -
Irving Olson report, 1983
A letter and the write-up of an interview conducted by Janet Rasmussen with a resident of the Norse Home in Seattle, Washington. Olson had emigrated from Laksevåg to Boston in 1907, and belonged to the Norwegian Society and Norumbega in Boston. -
Edward Hansen papers, 1923-1984
Clippings about the life and work of an emigrant from Mandal, who came to Chicago in 1904, where he began working in the furniture industry. From 1915-1931 he operated a restaurant, Den Norske Kafe, which became a fellowship among the Norwegians in Chicago. Later he owned and rented apartments. During a revival meeting in Mandal in 1902 he came to a religious awakening, after which he devoted much of his interest and energy to church and charitable enterprises. His visitation among the poor led to the founding of the Bethesda Old People's Home in Chicago. He was the first business manager for Norsk Ungdom, which began publication in Chicago in 1913. In 1926 he published a weekly Chicago Tidende. Includes biographical notes and information about Mrs. Edward Hansen, Den Norske Cafe, Articles, Information about Norsk Ungdom, and a diary of his trip to Norway, May-September 1937 which was translated by Josefa Hansen Andersen. -
Jon Gjerde article, 1979
"The effect of community on migration: Three Minnesota townships, 1885-1905," published in Journal of Historical Geography (Vol. 5, Issue 4, 1979, pages 403-422) by a Norwegian-American teaching at the University of Minnesota, Department of History. The area studies is Renville County, Minnesota. -
Nils Flaten article, 1939
"Valdris-rispo," a reprint of an article published in Maal og minne, written by a teacher and linguist at St. Olaf College. He tells stories in Valdris dialect as used by Norwegian-Americans in the Minnesota area where he grew up. A biographical sketch of Flaten by O.E. Rølvaag was published in Samband (1927). A photographs of Mrs. Flaten was transfered from the Rølvaag papers. -
Northfield Conference of Retired Pastors papers, 1942-1947
Minutes of meetings and records of talks of a group of pastors who retired to live in Northfield, Minnesota. The purpose of the group was to meet regularly for social fellowship and for discussion of papers presented by members and by outside scholars. -
Andrew (Einar) Brosten America letters, 1881-1896
Translations of letters to his relatives in Norway written by an immigrant who came to the U.S. in 1881. Some letters were addressed to his brother Richard, who emigrated in 1883. Andrew wrote from Illinois and Iowa, but finally settled on a farm in Griggs County, North Dakota, where he spent his working years. Biographical notes are in the papers. -

Papers of a Lutheran academy (Scandinavia Academy) founded in 1893, and a junior college in 1921, consisting of financial records, minutes of the board of trustees, historical sketch, student year books and journals, picture, programs, catalogues, and a historical sketch of the community.
