Go Deet and Take Plenty of Root: A Prairie-Norwegian Father, Rebellion in Minneapolis, Basement Zen, Growing Up, Growing Tender (2013, self-published). 286-page softbound volume. Reviewer Michael Dennis Browne, writes: “In Erik Storlie’s superbly detailed and touching memoir, we see how, by way of many tensions with both parents, and by an evolving liberating attention to their veiled individuality…he gains insights into their hidden natures and comes to an awareness of what he calls at one point ‘sorrow beyond my fathoming.’” The book touches on Storlie family history in eastern South Dakota.
Erik Halverson family history which mentions of tobacco fields of Trempealeau County, Wisconsin. Also includes "Recipes and Remembrances: Bruce Valley Church Restoration, Strum, Wisconsin."
Two undated articles by a Norwegian-born professor of physics at St. Olaf College: "At snakke norsk paa engelsk," typescript, 2 pages, and "Norskdommen og skolene," an undated clipping from "Decorah-Posten." "Det ble jul lell" is a one-page story that appeared in "Jul i Vesterheimen," 1951. "De tomme stoler," (translation included) a 6-page typewritten article, concerns the passing of O. E. Rolvaag.
Includes articles on Norwegian language, The Erik Hetle Story (written between 1956-1959). The story details his early life in Breim, Norway, and subsequent emigration in 1891 to South Dakota. Hetle tells of learning the English language and his quest for an education. He graduated from St. Olaf College in 1903.
Copies of a group of 18th century documents from Gudbrandsdal which are in the possession of Mr. and Mrs. T. Linn of Chicago.
A summary of the papers was provided by Rolf Erickson. The papers include farm sale in Tretten annex, a petition to the King of Denmark and Norway, sale of farm (newspaper story), and confirmation of farm sale in 1738 and 1794.
