Guri Olsdatter (Rosseland) Endreson papers, 1866-1951
Endreson, Guri Olsdatter (Rosseland) (1831-1881). A heroine of the Sioux Uprising in central Minnesota, August 1862, Guri Endreson settled with her husband Lars and their children by Lake Solomon, north of Willmar, Kandiyohi county, in 1857. The Norway Lake settlement just to the north was the only large Norwegian colony in the Lake Park region before the Uprising. On Aug. 20, 1862, her husband and their oldest son and his wife were killed, the farm buildings burned down, and two daughters were taken hostage. The following day Guri emerged from hiding to find the wounded younger son, and managed to transport him and two wounded neighbors to safety 30 miles east.
Included is the letter she later (Dec. 2, 1866) wrote to her family in Hardanger; typed transcription of the letter; and the English translation (with introd.) by Theodore C. Blegen, photocopy of article in Minnesota History, De. 1929, pp. 425-430.; Also, transcription of "Statement of Mrs. Gure Anderson" from History of the Great Massacre by Charles S. Bryant and A. B. Murch (St. Peter, 1872: in library collection, E83.86.B91.; Clippings (1907-1951) about Endreson and the Uprising and later observances. Includes souvenir programs (1933, 1941, 1960) of memorial observances held at Monson Lake Memorial Park, and information about the Endreson cabin now preserved on the Willmar fairgrounds. Includes memories of Mars. Halsten Olson; article by Agnes C. Laut (North Star, Dec. 1920, pp. 37-51); three installments of account published in Fergus Falls Ugeblad (1929); article by Martha (Aabye) Finney (Decorah Posten Aug. 4, 1936); article by Ole Paulson (Ungdommens Ven, July 1907). Gustav B. Joergenson papers, crica 1850
Photographs, programs, and articles on the history of Stanwood, Washington, and surrounding area, and early migrations into the Northwest. Joergenson was a farmer and a son of the pioneer Lutheran clergyman, Christian Joergenson (b. 1847), who left the ministry in 1893 to become a farmer and a leader in the local cooperative movement.

Gustav Knudsen Ronvik papers, 1873-1986
Copies of family documents, correspondence, photos, and union records of a Chicago emigrant from Stavanger, who was a member of the Bridge and Structural Iron Workers Union, beginning in 1902. He served on the steam yacht during the Spanish-American War
Includes: photocopies of official records (1871-1922); correspondence (original and photocopy) involving Ronvik and family (1925-1986), including one letter from Peder Knudsen to Ronvik, in which Knudsen expresses disappointment at not receiving payment of a debt to him from Gustav and family; photocopies of articles and order of service for Peder Knudsen's death (1936); family pedigree chart; recipe for port wine (1925); notes from an interview with Rick Ronvik (Gustav's son), Evanston, IL (1986); photocopies of newspaper articles re: murder of Bergit Kyvik, Peter (son of Gustav) Ronvick's sister (1941); photographs of Gustav Ronvik, of Ronvik family, of postcard of Steam Yacht Niagara, on which Gustav served, and of ironwork, including Iron Workers, North Side Sewage Disposal, John Griffiths & Son Co Builders, Chicago (1925); photograph negatives. -
Gustav Marius Bruce papers, 1879-1963
Correspondence, reports, clippings, and photographs of a Norwegian-born Lutheran clergyman, theological professor, author, editor, and lecturer. Bruce immigrated to Yankton County, Dakota Territory, in 1884; attended Fremont College, Red Wing Seminary, University of South Dakota, Temple University (Ph.D.), and Hartford Seminary (D.D.). He was a minister in South Dakota, Illinois, Minnesota, and Nebraska parishes; teacher in the public schools of Yankton County, Jewell College, and Red Wing Seminary; professor at Luther Theological Seminary (1917-1949); vice-president of the NELCA; and held a number of offices in the church.
He was publicity chairman of the Norse-American Centennial, president of Østfoldlaget for 16 years, and of Bygdelagenes Fellesraad for 5 years. He was editor of several religious periodicals, a contributor to newspapers and magazines, and the author of several books on social and educational subjects. Correspondence and reports in this collection deal with Knut Gjerset's proposed encyclopedia on Norwegian Americans, Bruce's work as publicity director of the Norse-American Centennial, Norwegian pioneers in Canada, and bilingualism in the church.
An article, "Lidt pionærhistorie," is an account of the blizzard of 1888, as it affected the Bruce family. Correspondence regarding bygdelag affairs has been transferred to the Bygdelagene Papers; Andreas Wright; Mons Wee; commemorations of Ole Rynning, Bjørnson and Jonas Lie; Leif Ericson Monument Association; NAHA; Century of Progress; Tvillingbyerne Norske Literaere Forening (including information about Laura Bratager, S. Sneve, Gustav Mellby); and Norwegians in Canada
The collection originally filled three boxes. Material directly relating to Bruce's work with the NELC (Luther League, educational survey, negotiations with congregations) was transferred to Region 3 archives at Luther Seminary in 1999. Correspondence as president of the Østfoldlaget and the Bygdelagenes Faellesraad (including record books and scrapbook) was transferred to the Bygdelagene Papers.

Includes transcripts of legal documents, maps of the property, inc. 1 folder: correspondence & reports concerning merger of congregations to form Trinity Lutheran church of Faribault, Minn., 1917; merger of North Branch and Our Saviours churches of Petersburg, Neb., 1937; and supply of pastoral services to other Petersburg area churches, 1937.

Gustav Rosseland letters, 1901-1918
Rosseland spent his early years as a sailor, and served with British supply ships to Africa during the Boer War. In 1903 he married Anna Larsen (born April 10, 1879, Kristiansand) and he emigrated (to Stearns, Kentucky) in 1904, where his wife and daughter joined him. A second child was born 1908 at Stearns; a third was born at Ludington, Michigan; a fourth at Castor, Alberta, Canada.
Letters written to Rosseland's sister and to his wife from Stearns, Ludington, and Youngstown, Alberta. An English translation was spoken onto a tape, which is included (no transcription has been made). -
