Eide's thesis analyzes the role of central pioneers, e.g., Cleng Peerson, during the first organized emigration to America from the Nordic countries [sloop "Restauration, 1825] that can be linked to the large scale emigration movement from the Finnøy region [Rogaland County, Norway]. Key questions addressed: How did these pioneers establish this early migration environment? What were the governmental reactions at different levels?
