- About the work of the noted Minnesota sculptor, born Nordland, who emigrated with his family in 1884. His best-known works are: statue of Senator Knute Nelson on the capitol grounds, St. Paul (1928); the Pioneer Square monument (Mpls) (1936); the Leif Erikson statue (1949) also on the capitol grounds. A copy of the last was installed in Duluth in 1956. Also: the buffalo in front of the former North American Life Insurance Building near the Walker Art Center, Mpls.; a portrait bust of Dr. William Mayo at the Univ. of Minnesota; a statue of Washington in Austin, Minn. (1937); statues of General John B. Sanborn and Col. Alexander Wilkin in the rotunda of the capitol; a Spanish-American war monument in Grafton, ND; Civil War monuments (copies in Andersonville, Georgia; Memphis, Tenn.; Little Rock, Ark.). He also worked on various projects with Frank Lloyd Wright.
Clippings (original and photocopy), June 23, 1913-July 31, 1958. The collection includes a letter (Feb. 10, 1916) to John Mohn of Northfield thanking him for an article Mohn had written and inquiring quote (about the movement on foot to erect a statue of St. Olaf on the campus of St. Olaf College.) One clipping gives Daniels' view on the Kensington Runestone. - Extent
