Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson papers, 1879-1940
Correspondence, clippings, essays, papers, personal reminiscences, 1932 centenary observance, and commentary on his 1881 lecture tour in the Midwest. One letter is by Bjørnson to Thoralv Klaveness concerning the latter's book, "Det Norske Amerika" (1904).

Eggen, president of the Norwegian National League of Minneapolis. Program for the 100th anniversary of Bjornson's birth, Dec. 8,1932. Poem, "Hilsen" written by Knut Hamsum for the seventieth anniversary of the birth of Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, translated by Martin R. Ruud and Joseph Warren Beach on the hundredth anniversary of his birth.

Norton wrote, "probably [written by] Arne Garborg´s younger brother Samuel...dealing with Bjornstjerne Bjørnson´s unsuccessful attempt to reach Decorah as part of the regional lecture tour arranged by Rasmus B. Andersen, but snowed out by what must have been a miserable winter storm. He got snowed-out, while his audience got snowed-in at Decorah!" May 4, 1881(?) Emma Blagen collection, 1913-1960
Blagen, Emma L. (1895-1983) Collection. Blagen lived most of her life in Decorah, Iowa. She was employed by John Longstreet Photograph Studio and the Decorah Meritol Co. The collection includes diaries kept between 1934 and 1978, family letters and postcards, 1913-1960s, and 150-plus family photograph negatives (scanned & printed), ca. early 1900s. -

Hans O. Blegen papers, 1903-1914
Born in Faaberg, Blegen emigrated in 1873 to Olmstead County, Minnesota. In 1885 he moved to Benson County, North Dakota where he farmed. Elected to North Dakota House of Representatives in 1906. For brief biography and photograph, see P0271, Norwegian-Americans in politics.
Includes: Copy of Governor L. B. Hanna's appointment of Blegen as member of the committee to present a bust of Abraham Lincoln from North Dakota to Norway (22 April 1914) and a program from the Unveiling and Presentation of the bust in Frogner Park, Kristiania, 4 July 1914; Photographic negative of "three of the many 'hired men' whom Blegen encouraged to strike out for themselves and not continue to work for others. They homesteaded in McKenzie County, North Dakota about 1903." The men are Peter Froholm from Innvik, Nordfjord; Clarence Rude from Stewartville, Minnesota; and Jon (Joe) Kirkeide from Stryn, Nordfjord. Added clipping from Curtis Eriksmoen (2006) "N.D. Theodore C. Blegen papers, 1925-1960
Dr. Blegen was editor of the Norwegian American Historical Association publications, 1925-1960. The letters in this collection are those written to Mrs. Helen Katz, his assistant, usually in connection with editorial details. They are written in a bantering tone and reveal interesting aspects of Blegen's personality, and also the personality of Mrs. Katz, who added her own comments to the letters before she donated them to the archives. -
Norman Blessum photographs, 1950-1982
Pictorial record of occasions involving the Norwegian-American community in Chicago: May 17, appearances of Bernt Balchen, Governor Adlai Stevenson, the Oslo Håndverkers Chorus, and ribbon-cutting ceremonies. Blessum, a Chicago businessman and for a time Clerk of Cook County Court, was present at these events. He was a son of Ben Blessum, the Norwegian-American painter. -
Helge A. Boe papers, 1897-1922
Born Vang, Valdres, Boe emigrated 1864. He worked as a clerk in various stores in Northfield, Minn. Before returning to Norway in 1877 for 1½ years. Upon his return to Northfield he established a hardware store in the building originally occupied by the First National Bank. He retired in 1922.
