Mabel Peterson Hill article, 1890
A manuscript article concerning Methodist missionaries in Utah. Note: Sophie O. Peterson went from Nicollet county, Minnesota as a missionary teacher in Utah. There she married Peter Melby, from Norway, another missionary. She died in childbirth, September 1890, and her widower asked to be sent to Washington State. Mrs. Hill describes locating her aunt's grave.

Statements and messages to Solstad by classmates at Klaebo Seminary, Norway. Born at Borsskogning, Trondheim, Norway, Solstad was a banker and merchant in Woodville, Wisconsin.

Hans Christian Grey Hjortaas papers, 1933-1934
Letters and a clipping regarding "Norsk Slektshistorisk Forening," a Norwegian genealogical association, several articles, and a book review that ran in "Minneapolis Tidende." Hjortaas was on the editorial staff of that paper and was a student of genealogy.

Letters by relatives and friends in the United States to Houkom and others, written from Coon Prairie and Taylor, Wisconsin; Hampton, Iowa; and Stevens County and Winona, Minnesota. The writers describe their farm buildings and produce; quote prices of crops, livestock, and land; and encourage migration to America. Mainly correspondence and reports of a Northfield, Minnesota, firm whose members were George O. Berg, I.F. Grose, Erik Hetle, P. O. Holland, L. Larson, C.A. Mellby, Ole E. Rolvaag, Paul G. Schmidt, Ole Tande, and J. Jorgen Thompson. The correspondence and reports deal largely with land investments in Northfield and in North Dakota. -
John Anderson Publishing Company papers, 1854-1955
Correspondence, anniversary programs, certificates, clippings, pictures, and pamphlets of a Chicago publishing house founded in 1866 by John Anderson (1836-1910). Among the items are the first issue of "Skandinaven" after the Chicago fire in 1871, biographical sketches, letters concerning politics, photographs of the company, "The Story of Skandinaven, 1866-1916." Knute Nelson and Victor Lawson were correspondents.

Correspondence and personal papers of two Ashippun, Wisconsin, families, including those of father-in-law Ole Tollefson, born 1794, emigrated 1862 of Racine, Wisconsin.
Includes 1860 mortgage to Hans and Mary Larson, and Ingebret (Englebert) and Anne Mary Larson. The second couple was born Gjerpen/Skien 1825 and 1833, emigrated 1855. Includes letters from family in Norway, and an incomplete letter of Nov. 26, 1859 from Kenyon, MN, which mentions arrival of B.J. Muus.
