Arne Alfarnes papers, 1976
"De harde aar i Vesten; Arne Alfarnes beretter fra sin tid i U.S.A" (47 pages), the recollections of an emigrant who came to the United States in 1909. After a few years of wandering in the West, he returned to his home in Norway. The material was originally published in 12 numbers of Andalsnes Avis, July 21-August 31, 1976. Clippings of the original articles are included.

Arne E. Boyum diary, 1899, 1984
A journal kept by an emigrant from Balestrand, Sogn, who came to the United States in 1853 and was ordained into the Ellings Synode in 1858. Original volume and photocopy. He served the Arendahl Congregation at Peterson, Minnesota, of the Hauge Synod, 1858-1896, and was pastor emeritus for the congregation until his death. He was President of the Hauge Synod, 1876-1887. The journal covers the everyday happenings in home, church and community during the year. The last entry tells of the death of his wife. A translation (28 typescript pages) was made in 1984 by Anna A. Boyum Lubbers, a grand-daughter of Arne E. Boyum.
Includes Boyum's Daily Diary (1899) original (written in Norwegian) and an English translation, A.E. Boyum's biography (in Norwegian), "Remember the Days of Old: The Centennial Saga of Arendahl Evangelical Lutheran Congregation 1856-1956" by Ernest M. Maland, Mrs. Boyum's obituary, a letter from Ole C. Ask "architect, contractor and builder" (1899) for building a house, and 2 personal documents in Norwegian. -
Arne Fremmegaard scrapbook, 1924-1939
Scrapbook of clippings and photographs concerning Norwegian-Americans and their activities in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Some of the photos were taken on the occasion of the visit of Olav and Martha in 1939. Mr. Fremmegaard was a prominent Minneapolis banker who came from Norway in 1924. He was general chairman of the committee in charge of arrangements for the visit of Olav and Martha in 1939. He was made a Commander of the Royal Order of St. Olav by King Haakon. -

Arne Garborg papers, 1878-2014
Photostatic copies of letters by the Norwegian author to Mrs. Mabel Johnson Leland (1872-1947), Kenyon, Minnesota, the wife of Dr. Ragnvald Leland and the translator of Garborg's "Den burtkomne faderen," published in 1920 as "The Lost Father." The letters discuss practical aspects of publication.

Arne K. Berger papers, circa 1905, 1926
Papers of an artist born in Valdres who worked in Decorah, Portland, and Minneapolis. Two catalogs (about 1905 and 1926) include reproductions of portraits, landscapes, and altar pieces. Berger painted many portraits of church, academic, and political leaders. According to Carl G. O. Hansen ("My Minneapolis," p. 174), Berger was born in Valdres, 1872, came to Minneapolis at the turn of the century, was in Decorah, Iowa for a few years, going from there to the West Coast. He had a studio in Portland, Oregon, where in a few years he turned out more than 60 altar pieces and a number of portraits. In 1917 he moved to Minneapolis. In addition to portraits and altar pieces, he did landscapes (often picturizations of pioneer life) and genre painting. He died in Minneapolis, 1951. -
Arne M. Bjorndal journal, 1940
The journal of Arne Bjørndal, who was involved in resistance activities following the German invasion on April 9, 1940. The journal documents his experiences in Norway between April 9–20, 1940. It includes My Early Years: From School Days to War Time, which reflects on his early years in Norway, the invasion of Norway, becoming a “citizen arrestee,” and being sent to Ebreichsdorf sanitorium on the Austria/Hungary border. Transcription and translation of journal provided. -

Arnfinn Bruflot papers, 1968-1974
Clippings of reviews and other papers concerning a poet who was born in Naustdal, Sunnfjord, Norway. He graduated from Firda Gymnas in Sandane in 1927, and was a schoolmate of Jacob Sande, who became a prominent poet in Norway. He emigrated in 1928 and settled in Tacoma, Washington, where he engaged in various kinds of work, some of the time as a house-painter. He was editor of Western Viking during the 1930s and also wrote for other Norwegian American newspapers. After 1970 he joined the editorial board of Ny Verd, published in Norwalk, Connecticut. His volumes of poetry: Juni-boten, 1969, Det storkna havet, 1970, and Præriekveld, 1973, published in Oslo by Det Norske Samlaget, are written in ny norske and were well received by critics in Norway.
