In this series of interviews by Odd Lovoll for his books “The Promise of America: History of the Norwegian-American People” and“The Promise Fulfilled: A Portrait of Norwegian Americans Today,” Lovoll interviews Peter C. Christianson regarding being a Norwegian-American. Christianson was a lobbyist and lawyer in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was a partner at the law firm Quarles & Brady.

Peter Christian Asserson papers, circa 1881, 1944
Abstract
Biographical information on a Norwegian-born rear admiral and civil engineer in the United States Navy. He was an ensign in the navy during the Civil War, and as the senior member of the Corps of Engineers, 1872-1901, was in charge of building most major American dry docks. Includes an article by Kenneth O. Bjørk (n.d.).
Biographical information:
Born in Egersund, sailed as a youth in Norway, took courses in navigation, astronomy and engineering at Cooper Union in New York in preparation for service in the Union Navy at the onset of the Civil War. Served on the Florida as navigator and divisional officer. Following the war he raised four battleships, two frigates and a number of river boats. Placed in charge of the reconstruction of the navy yard in Norfolk in 1873. In 1885 he was sent to rebuild the navy yards in New York. Became known as a dry dock expert, retired in 1901, died in 1906. Children were William C. Asserson, Frederick A. Asserson, Henry R.Asserson, M. Alice Asserson, and two daughters who married W. B. Fletcher and William F. Spicer.

Peter Horvereid autograph book, 1872-1874
"One of the old Norwegian pioneers in Minneapolis, " Hovereid was born In Namdalen, emigrated in 1882. Employed by the Great Northern Railroad, in his earlier years he was active in labor affairs. Died aged 79. Horvereid asked his fellow soldiers "of the second class" to give him examples of their handwriting, their name and birthplace. Dated 1872-74, Trondheim. -

Peter Julius Rosendahl cartoons, 1918-1980
Bound copies of the first and second compilations of "Han Ola og Han Per," the only continuous Norwegian cartoon published in America. The series appeared in Decorah Posten, 1918 - 1942, with re-runs until the paper was discontinued in 1972. The compilations were transferred to St. Olaf library for cataloging in 1997, a duplicate copy of the second is included here. The creator of the cartoon was a farmer near Spring Grove, Minnesota, the son of immigrant parents from Norway. His brother Carl Otto Rosendahl was a distinguished botanist at the University of Minnesota. Peter L. Hoen autobiography, 1932-1986
"My Life," Dyre Dyresen's translation (64 typescript pages, 1984) of an account written by an emigrant from Nordrehaug in Ringerike. After coming to Chicago in 1871 he became a Seventh Day Adventist and spent the rest of his life as a layman working among the Scandinavians for this denomination. The file includes a biographical sketch of Peter Hoen's son, Reu E. Hoen. -
