Scandinavian American Fraternity papers, 1905-1969
Official organization of a fraternal benefit society, founded in 1896 at Eau Claire, Wisconsin, which in 1970 merged with Bankers Mutual Life Insurance Company of Freeport, Illinois. The publication was issued bi-monthly. According to a "Synopsis of history of our order" in the 1930 convention program, the Independent Scandinavian Workingmen's Association was originally started in Chicago in the 80s. In 1889 a branch was started in Eau Claire, Wisconsin as "Norden no.8"; a disagreement with the Chicago lodge led to separation on March 2nd, 1893; the same year a branch was begun in Hayward, Wisconsin.
The society was incorporated in Wisconsin and licensed to do business in Minnesota, North Dakota and Illinois. A journal was issued monthly beginning September 1901. Originally in Norwegian and called "Maanedlig I.S.W.A. Journal; officielt journal for Den Uafhngige Skandinaviske Arbeiderforening," it switched to English in 1918 and was called "Scandinavian American Fraternity Journal." Scandinavian Brotherhood in America papers, 1909-1915
Brochures, clippings, and periodicals about a fraternal order whose "aims and objects…are to unite fraternally and socially all male person of Scandinavian birth or decent…to induce its members to become citizens…to study American institutions and principles…to provide for sick, accident and funeral benefits." There was a parallel Scandinavian Sisterhood organization. The directory of lodges in the October 1914 issue lists 16, plus 9 sisterhood chapters, all in Montana, Idaho, Washington and British Columbia.; Clippings, 1909-15. Papers of a mutual benefit society, originally called the Skandinaviske Forbund af America. Volume: Harald Lodge no. 84 (Rockford, Illinois) Record book. 1 v. Includes list of members 1907-09, with address, date of joining, in some cases place and date of birth. Where place of birth is given, it is Sweden. Eight CD's of Douglas Warne's "Scandinavian Hour." The Scandinavian Hour has been on the air with host Doug Warne each weekend since 1959. Scandinavian Community guests contribute to the program each week — airing music and guest comments from all the Nordic countries. -

Scandinavian Mormons collection, 1871-1996
Pamphlets, articles, offprints, reviews, clippings, programs, and 1850-1860 census records concerning Scandinavian Mormons. One pamphlet (1950) contains articles and the program held in Salt Lake City commemorating the centennial of the introduction of Mormonism into the Scandinavian countries. Included are articles by William Mulder and other Mormon historians. -

Scandinavian Young People's Society records, 1872-1945
Minutes and financial records of a society organized in 1872 as "De Unge mænds kristelig forening tilhøreded Trefoldigheds Menighed, Chicago, Ill." Later minutes books cite 1876 as date of organization. The stated purpose was to foster spiritual, intellectual, and social development. Later they owned a building on Kedzie Avenue, Chicago.

Records and other materials concerning a society founded in Chicago in October, 1889, as Scandinavian Medical Society, founded by S. D. Jacobson, F. A. Hess and Sven Windrow. A photocopy of Baltazar Meyer's A History of the Scandinavian-American Medical Society of Chicago, on the Occasion of Its Twenty-fifth Anniversary, 1913, 82 pages, is included.
