How We Came to Be edited by Penny Giesbrecht for the Greene Family Reunion, 2011. Includes extensive pedigree charts for the Greene/Carlson and Lien/Sanden Families. Based partly on the manuscript, "A Century of Memories," by Emil O. Greene (1883-1980), circa 1962, transcribed 2011. Touches upon settling near New Ulm, farm life, berry picking, catching gophers for a cent a piece, hunting, Fourth of July and horse racing, caring for horses, moving to Florence, Minnesota, and Saturday dances at the Twin Lakes Bower and Baseball Park.

Lars Føre Jacobson (1859-1923) was born in Fayette County, Iowa and married Johanna in 1884. They had 14 children. Later, Lars owned a general store in Madison, Minnesota named L.F. Jacobson & Co.
