Charles E. Stangeland articles, 1905-1928
Scandinavian and American Culture, originally a lecture given before Det Norske Selskab in Washington, D.C., on January 26, 1910 and later published in "Idun," 1910, Chicago, and 17 clippings (1905-1928). Stangeland was a professor of political economy at the State College in Pullman, Washington, and a professor at the University of Berlin. He was born in Iowa and graduate of Augsburg College.

Harold Knutson articles, 1945-1946
History/Biography:
Born in Skien, Norway, 1880. Attended State Agriculture School at St. Anthony Park. After graduating, he learned printing through the Clear Lake times office. He published and edited the Royalton Banner and Foley Independent. He was also an associate editor of the St. Cloud Daily Journal Press and published the Pioneer Journal in Wadena. He was first elected to congress in 1916 and after two years in service was made the majority whip of the house.
Scope and Content:
Newspaper clippings and releases titled "Observations from Washington" by a Norwegian-born, Wadena, Minnesota, Republican Congressman. Also includes transcript of letter from H. Knutson to J.A. Blomgren, Minneapolis, 1937. -

Cleng Peerson papers, 1824-1994
Correspondence, legal documents, clippings, pictures, and a biography concerning a Norwegian-American pathfinder. The papers include copies and transcripts of Peerson letters, an emigration paper, 1838 indenture, LaSalle Co.,; petition & private act for Telief (1855), and Texas warranty deeds which Peerson signed as a witness, a biography by Rasmus B. Anderson, an article by Theodore C. Blegen, and pamphlets concerning the Bishop Hill colony. Peerson, the founder of the first Norwegian settlements in New York, Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri, spent his last years in Texas, and was buried there in Bosque County. -

Knud Langeland papers, 1869-1937
Biography/History:
Knud Langeland was an editor, farmer, and politician. He was born in Samnager, Norway, and taught school before he emigrated to the United States in 1843. He settled on a farm in Racine County, Wisconsin. He was the editor of Democraten (published in Racine, Wisconsin) and in 1866 he became the editor of Scandinaven. Langeland also served in the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1860.
Scope and Content:
Articles, correspondence, clippings, and legal papers containing Langeland's views on political issues of the day; his attack on the Norwegian Synod; and his defense of the common school. The legal papers concern the ownership and financial policies of Skandinaven. Langeland is the author of "Nordmændene i Amerika" (1888). The file includes an 85-page handwritten manuscript of Langeland's "Norwegians in America, part II," translated by Clarence Clausen. The clippings provide biographical information about Langeland, his family, and his ancestry.
