Jonas Gatland family history, 2014
"Jonas Gatland--the U.S. immigrant who returned to Norway" (2014).Gatland emigrated from Osterøy, Norway in 1903 and eventually settled in Cloquet, Minnesota. Family escaped the great fire of 1918 and lost everything. Soon thereafter his wife died due to the influenza outbreak. Gatland and his six children returned permanently to Norway in 1920. -
Agnes Kjorlie Geelan biography, 1989
The January 1989 issue of the Binford (North Dakota) Guide, volume 21, January 1989, which tells the story of a Norwegian-American, beginning with her childhood and youth in Hatton, North Dakota, and her education at the Mayville Normal School. She came as a teacher to Enderlin, North Dakota, where she married Elric Geelan, a railroad trainman. She became involved in women's suffrage, the labor union, and local politics, which led to her election as mayor and later as senator in the North Dakota Legislature. She served as Commissioner of the State Workmen's Compensation Bureau, was a member of the North Dakota Commission on the Status of Women and of the North Dakota Constitutional Convention. She is also the author of a biography of Senator Bill Langer and of two novels, The Ministers' Daughters and Pine Cove Revisited. -
Einar W. Giaver papers, 1914-2001
Letters and clippings concerning Joachim G. Giaver (1856-1925), a Norwegian-born civil engineer in Chicago, who received the St. Olav Medal from King Haakon of Norway in 1921. Included in the letters is one from a relative, Ivar Giaever, recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics, 1973. -
Arthur F. Giere collection, 1929-circa 1950
The collection of materials includes: Arthur G. Giere’s copies the Gale Bulletin from July 1929-August 1932, History of Galesville University, 1854-1940, The Vossings in American and Glimpses of Gale by Arthur F. Giere, and the Eric Clauson Tesdal Himle Notebook. Arthur has a long relationship with Gale College. He started teaching in 1903 at the age of 18. For several years in the 1930s, he served as President of the Vosselaget. The notebook has memories of Arthur G. Giere, his father Reverend Nils Giere who was a pastor at Crow River, Renville and Sacred Heart, MN (1883-1933) and his brother, Dr. Eric O. Giere who operated Giere Clinic in Minneapolis with his sons. -

A Few Lutheran Church Cases; Selected by Arthur F. Giere, a 95-page pamphlet. Clippings, a poem, and an obituary, "Vinland," December 18, 1980. Giere was a lawyer in Galesburg, Wisconsin, who contributed short pieces to Norwegian-American newspapers and periodicals. -

Giere was born in Deerfield, Wis., ordained 1883. Served churches at Crow River and Big Grove (near Belgrade, Minn.); Renville and Bird Island, Minn; Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, CA; and from 1904-1933 at Sacred Heart, Minn. Includes 10 volumes of appointment books, 1903-1912. -

Harry Gilbertson papers, 1876-1881
Gilbertson's family immigrated in 1848 from Vang, Valdres (Naeseth v. 3, 1848:256-257; Robert A. Bjerke, Manitowoc-skogen (1994), p. 78)
Diary, 1876-1881. 1 volume. Typed transcription of diary of a farmer (Norwegian name: Helge Gulbrandsen) who lived near Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Many entries are brief notations about weather and work, but others record deaths of five family members. A final comment: "In it is recorded the saddest years of our existence."
