Magnus Andersen papers, 1895-1937
Translation of two chapters of a book, 70 Aars Tilbakeblik, written by a Norwegian sea captain and published in Oslo in 1932. A copy of the book is included in the collection. The chapters excerpted deal with the voyage of the Viking from Bergen to the Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893 and later down the Mississippi River to New Orleans. Andersen originated the idea of such a boyage and was captain of the crew. A photograph of Anderson from 1937 and clippings included.

Margaret Andersen journal, circa 1900
Journal of Margaret Andersen, kept during her time traveling with the Salvation Army. Journal mostly contains hymns written by hand in Norwegian, with some english text. -
Thor M. Andersen biography, 1825-1979
The more than 55,0000 entries on hand written cards were edited and published on the Internet by the University of Oslo Library in cooperation with the Department of British and American Studies of the University. Entries by and /or about Norwegian emigrants to the U.S. and Canada from newspapers, periodicals, books and brochures, principally between 1825 and 1930.; Searches by author, title, personal name, place names, or any work. Over 400 individual titles (about 300 in Norwegian, 100 in English) were covered.
Information about, brochures, sample entries from the data base of references compiled by a Norwegian librarian from 1929 until his death in 1979. -

Garfield A. Stensland interview, 1985
An interview conducted November 5, 1985 at 7251 W. Thorndale Ave., Chicago, Il 60631 by Hazel Anderson. Includes a letter pertaining to his induction into the 1984 Senior Citizens Hall of Fame, and one of 1981 about the family of his grandfather Aanen Aanensen Stensland, of Jaeren. Born in Chicago, Garfield first worked in banks, but after study at Northwestern University he became administrator of the Norwood Park Home for the Aged in Chicago. He was licensed as a lay preacher, and was active in several male choruses. "In 1984 he received the St. Olaf Medal at Edison Park Lutheran Church for his outstanding service to the church and his community." -
