Gjermund Hoyme papers, 1850-1902
Papers of a Norwegian-born Lutheran clergyman: a memorial article by John O. Hougen (25 leaves manuscript) and transl. By L.A. Mathre, 1966 (20 leaves), Hoyme's President's Report to the Conference of the Norwegian-Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 1888 (61 leaves manuscript), clippings regarding his death, and notebooks. Hoyme was president of the Conference (1886-1890) and of the United Lutheran Church (1890-1902). Includes: 1 autograph book, 1878-1888, with entries by his wife, Carl J.Helsem, Ole 0. Hanstad, Sven R. Gunnersen, John Blegen, Peder Olson, Kristofer Janson, A.L. Underthun, A. Jensen, J.H. Grøtheim, L. Lund, O.H. Gleason's Pictorial, 1852 September 11
Gleason's Pictorial (September 11, 1852) which includes an article about the collision on Lake Erie between the steamer "Atlantic" and the propeller-driver "Ogdensburg." The donor, Bruce Weaver, discovered that his great-great-great grandmother, Marit Rødvang, and her family, miraculously survived the shipwreck. An article about the 1852 collision was written by Abraham Jacobson, and was featured in the 1902 issue of the Decorah Postin about Marit Rødvang and the family's harrowing journey to America. Approximately 500 people were on board the Atlantic and only 200 were rescued. Also, "Forgotten Shipwreck, Recovered Memory," by Bruce Weaver (Budstikken, May, 2006). Added Aug. 18, 2015: "Awful Calamity! The Steamship Atlantic Disaster of 1852," by Justin Wargo (Wisconsin Magazine of History, Winter 2014-2015). -
Glen B. Hoidale biography, 1901-1984
A biographical sketch by Glen B. Hoidale and two cassette tapes covering the life of a Norwegian American who after a life at sea came to the United States in 1924. He worked for a time as a safety inspector in New York and Pennsylvania. He moved to Wichita, Kansas, in 1928, where he was a salesman for the International Correspondence Schools until he retired in 1966. -

"Further Facts on Fossum: Evaluations of the M. Truman Fossum Floriculture Collection and of Mr. Fossum's Role in the Ornamental Horticulture Industry." Monograph submitted to the National Agricultural Library in fulfillment of a fellowship contract with the Department of History of the University of Maryland, 1989. A master-level paper based partly on interviews with Fossum.
Fossum, described as the "father of floricultural economics," was born in 1912 in Bottineau County, North Dakota, to Norwegian American parents. -

Celeste Holm was an American stage, film and television actress. Holm won an Academy Award for her performance in Elia Kazan's Gentleman's Agreement, and was nominated for her roles in Come to the Stable and All About Eve Unprocessed This item is currently restricted. -
