Find NAHA at the upcoming Crossings and Connections conference! The conference, held June 18–22, 2025, at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, commemorates 200 years of Norwegian migration. NAHA is co-hosting the event in collaboration with the NAHA-Norge, the Norwegian Teachers and Researchers Association of North America, and the Norwegian Department at St. Olaf College.
Spotlight Session: NAHA and NAHA-Norge: A Century of Making History

It’s no coincidence that 2025 marks both the bicentennial of Norwegian migration
and the centennial of the Norwegian American Historical Association. The NAHA staff will highlight a century of NAHA publications, archives, and membership. In addition, we’ll hear about its more than 40 year relationship with NAHA-Norge, which was originally founded as a Norwegian chapter of NAHA. The organizations now enjoy cooperation in their closely related goals of supporting and promoting research in Norwegian American history. Join us Friday, June 20th, 8:15–8:45 am in Viking Theater!
The Exchange
On Friday, June 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., we will be at the Crossings and Connections Exchange—a dedicated time for sharing ideas, services, and goods. Few other activities are scheduled during this window, allowing attendees plenty of time to connect with authors, vendors, and sponsors.

NAHA members: Don’t forget to visit the NAHA booth at The Exchange to pick up your special commemorative book!
In honor of our centennial year, NAHA has created an anthology to mark a century of publishing our journal, Norwegian American Studies. Members of the NAHA Publications Committee selected one essay from each of our journal’s ten decades. The resulting collection features some of the most innovative and significant scholarship in the field of Norwegian American studies—on health conditions among early Norwegian immigrants, on their contact with American Indians, on adaptations in baking practices, and much more. A brief author profile accompanies each essay, to give greater context to the writing. The book also includes an insightful introduction by NAHA board member Annette Atkins.
We will also be running exclusive membership specials, selling NAHA merchandise, recent publications, and having a flash sale on select past publications!
Illuminating 200 Years of Migration Exhibit
Join us in celebrating 200 years of migration and 100 years of the Norwegian American Historical Association with the opening of a special exhibit! The event will be held on Friday, June 20, from 5:00–6:15 p.m. in the Groot Gallery of the Flaten Art Museum, with remarks beginning at 5:30. This festive reception is generously sponsored by The Kavli Foundation.
The exhibit, Illuminating 200 Years of Migration: A Centennial Exhibit of the Norwegian American Historical Association, highlights the experiences of individuals and communities who helped shape the cultural and physical landscape while maintaining strong ties to their heritage. From wartime courage to artistic and entrepreneurial achievements, these stories speak to themes of resilience, identity, and connection. Through photographs, letters, newspapers, and artifacts, visitors can explore how Norwegian Americans built community, adapted to change, and contributed to the shared history of the United States and Canada.
Marking the 100th anniversary of the Norwegian American Historical Association, the exhibit draws from NAHA’s extensive archival collections to reflect on two centuries of movement, memory, and meaning. Every object—from handwritten letters to rare photographs—offers a glimpse into the lives, struggles, and aspirations of Norwegian immigrants.
