Karl Olsen writings, 1992
Two volumes of "Selected Writings of Karl Olsen," edited by Stephen Olsen. Karl Olsen, born in Valley City, North Dakota, briefly attended St. Olaf College. Before the age of twenty, he tramped through Japan, Manchuria, Mexico, the Soviet Union, and Europe. Olsen served as an intelligence officer in the Pacific during World War II, and later assigned to one of the first detachments of the U.S. forces to enter Berlin in 1945. After the war he co-founded and served the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Karl R. Lundeberg papers, 1928-1954
Lundeberg was born at Kenyon, Minn., son of the Rev. Knut O. Lundeberg (see his papers). He received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 1925, also studied hygiene at the University of Paris and the London School of Tropical Medicine. In 1930 he joined the Army as a specialist in preventive medicine, working at Washington and San Antonio. During World War II he was chief of preventive medicine for American forces in India and Burma. After the war he was chief of medical affairs in the public welfare branch of the Office of the High Commission for Germany, until 1950 when he became director of the Army Experimental Health Branch before becoming health commissioner of Minneapolis, 1954 to 1964. Includes clippings, printouts from Army Medical Department publications, photograph, letters (1940-1980). 1947-64 personal records.- My Boyhood, manuscript written in English, 18 pgs, by Knut Olavson Lundeberg (transcribed/partial. Karl S. Birkeland letters, 1872-1892
Letters from family and friends to a Norwegian emigrant from Sunnfjord to Michigan, 1872. He was a farmer at Benona, Oceana County, Michigan. Later letters address him as Charles Burke. Six pages of notes on family history are included. -
Karl Siewers papers, 1868-1992
Expedition from Christiana printed in commemoration of the 100th anniversary, Alfred Collett Siewers, born July, 1871, by Karl Siewers. 3 mimeographed copies; a collection of translated letters, biographical data, photographs, facsimiles. Letters center around Lyder Siewers and his wife Thrine Brandt Siewers who came in 1868 to Decorah, Iowa where he taught at Luther College (1863 - 1877) and was later an editor at Decorah-Posten (1877 - 1907). Mrs. Siewers made three trips to Norway and died there in 1908. A sister, Adda Siewers, accompanied the pair to Decorah. The trio moved to a farm beside a spring outside Decorah. The farm was later owned by members of the Hjelle family, relatives in the Brandt line. The spring is called Siewers Spring, and is the location of an Iowa State Fish Hatchery.

Karsten Idland papers, 1970
A clipping ("Vinland" Dec. 3, 1970) and letters concerning a Norwegian war hero who emigrated to Long Island, New York, after the end of World War II. He participated in the commando operations at the Vemorck heavy water plant near Rjukan in October, 1942. He received medals from the governments of Norway, France, Britain, and the United States. NB: see Thomas M. Gallagher's "Assault on Norway (N.Y., 1975) in St. Olaf Library. -
