John K. Hanson manuscript, 1983
"The Winnebago Story, 1958-1983," a 155-page account of the growth of a recreational vehicle manufacturing company located in Forest City, Iowa. Hanson was a member of the Forest City Development Commission which brought the travel trailer company to the community and made it into a flourishing enterprise.
A Hanson family history is filed under P0539, and a published family history by Robert L. Lillestrand and Barbara Hanson Bulman is in the NAHA books collection (see: Winebago, Industries)

John Kallestad family papers, 1890-1987
Documents, correspondence, photo albums concerning the family of John Kallestad, a master mariner who came to Chicago from Kristiansand in 1921 and whose family followed in 1923. The Kallestads were charter members of the Norwegian Memorial Church in Chicago where John served as chairman of the Church Council. -
John Karl Daniels collection, 1913-1958
About the work of the noted Minnesota sculptor, born Nordland, who emigrated with his family in 1884. His best-known works are: statue of Senator Knute Nelson on the capitol grounds, St. Paul (1928); the Pioneer Square monument (Mpls) (1936); the Leif Erikson statue (1949) also on the capitol grounds. A copy of the last was installed in Duluth in 1956. Also: the buffalo in front of the former North American Life Insurance Building near the Walker Art Center, Mpls.; a portrait bust of Dr. William Mayo at the Univ. of Minnesota; a statue of Washington in Austin, Minn. (1937); statues of General John B. Sanborn and Col. Alexander Wilkin in the rotunda of the capitol; a Spanish-American war monument in Grafton, ND; Civil War monuments (copies in Andersonville, Georgia; Memphis, Tenn.; Little Rock, Ark.). He also worked on various projects with Frank Lloyd Wright.
Clippings (original and photocopy), June 23, 1913-July 31, 1958. The collection includes a letter (Feb. 10, 1916) to John Mohn of Northfield thanking him for an article Mohn had written and inquiring quote (about the movement on foot to erect a statue of St. Olaf on the campus of St. Olaf College.) Some clipping titles include: Work Proceeds on Statue to Honor Memory of Senator Knute Nelson (May 2, 1928); Statue Depicting Pioneer Heroism Is Nearly Ready (Aug. 29, 1936); City Gets Preview of Ericson Statue (New York Times, May 4, 1949); No Leggings for Leif Ericsson? (The Minneapolis Star, May 13, 1949); 17de Mai 1814-1949 Minneapolis Posten Supplement, with photo of Leif Erikson statue on cover (May 13, 1949); Division Of Germany, with section about Leif Erikson, A Symbol (St. Paul Pioneer Press, Oct. 8, 1949); Statue of Leif Erikson Unveiled at State Capitol (Minneapolis Sunday Tribune, Oct. 10, 1949). One clipping gives Daniels' view on the Kensington Runestone. -

John Lie papers, 1898-1963
Lie, an author who lived in Fyresdal, Telemark, became popular among his countrymen in the States for his stories, mainly published as serials in Norwegian-American newspapers. "Poetisk Stræv-Sann Fri diktning," by Olav Solberg, 1983, evaluates Lie's work; "Til Minde um min gjæve ven John Lie, med takk og Kjærleik ifraa K. K. Rudie," a 2-page poetic tribute; clippings and programs related to Lie memorial events in Fyresdal; and a photocopy of his book of poems, "Helsing til Amerika," published in Hillsboro, North Dakota, in 1898 (Banner Publishing Co.). -
John Linderup student paper, 1983
"John Linderup and the Norwegian-American Press," by Cindy Perry, covering Linderup's journalistic contributions to the Chicago papers "Skandinaven"," Scandia," and "Viking." Born in Tromso, Norway, Linderup came to the United States in 1924.

John M. Dybdahl papers, 1902-1960
Clippings, letters, and other records of a Chicago dentist and violinist, who emigrated from Trondheim with his parents in 1902. A graduate of the American Conservatory of Music, 1912, and of the Northwestern University Dental School, 1914, he started his dental practice in Moose Lake, Minnesota, but after a disastrous fire there he returned to Chicago where he practiced dentistry until his retirement in 1960. During all those years he was also active as a musician, taking part in numerous concerts and recitals.
