"History and Memories from Pioneer Times in Winnebago County, Iowa," first appeared in Norwegian in Visergutten, January 12, 1928. This translation is by a grandson, H. O. Folkestad. Ole Haaland came from Skjold, Stavanger, Norway, in 1858 to Dane County, Wisconsin, and migrated to Iowa in 1965.
48 unnumbered pages of research by Mary Ellen Deprey. Black & white and color photocopies of images. Textual family history, plus many geographic illustrations of Loga farm in Flekkefjord: the family homeland. Ole was born in 1854 and married Nikoline (Niklina) Nilsdtr (born in 1856 at Søndre fjeldgate 104 in Flekkefjord)in 1879. They emigrated from Kristiansand in March of 1880 and settled in Wisconsin. The collection includes a list of nine patents of Ole's inventions for various apparatuses he invented, plus two pedigree charts, one beginning with Ole Johannessen born 5 Jun 1854, the other chart beginning with Nikoline. Niklina Nilsdtr 1 born 25 Sep 1856. Each chart goes back six generations.

"Et tidlig utvandringsmiljø. En studie av organisert pioneremigrasjon til Amerika 1821-1854, med særlig vekt på Finnøy prestegjeld" [An Early Migration Environment. A Study of Organized Pioneer Emigration to America 1821-1854, with special focus on Finnøy Parish].
Eide's thesis analyzes the role of central pioneers, e.g., Cleng Peerson, during the first organized emigration to America from the Nordic countries [sloop "Restauration, 1825] that can be linked to the large scale emigration movement from the Finnøy region [Rogaland County, Norway]. Key questions addressed: How did these pioneers establish this early migration environment? What were the governmental reactions at different levels? Relevant search words: Stavanger, Norge, Finnoy, emigrasjon, immigrasjon, utvandring.
Typescript copy of a manuscript "Coming to America, 1868," as told to Petra M. Lien, Hanska, Minnesota. Eight families from Lesjaskog and Romsdalen emigrated to Linden Township, Brown County.
